10 Startups Making Cities Smarter

29.05.2018 13:32, Robynn Weldon

Cities are getting bigger and denser - and are under increasing pressure. For these future-oriented innovators, that means new opportunities.

According to a UN study, 66 percent of humanity will be living in cities by 2050. This intense concentration of people has a myriad implications.

Some of the best minds in technology are working on these emerging problems, designing solutions for smart cities that use data to make them more efficient, cleaner and better connected – and last week’s Scaleup Bootcamp, an initiative of digitalswitzerland, powered by Venture Kick, brought them together with industry to shape the future.

routeRANK: enables travellers to search and sort all possible modes of transport at once – air, rail, private car, bike etc, and all their possible combinations.
Antavi: uses mobile and wearable technology to capture human behavior at country scale.
Younergy Solar: provides distributed solar energy to consumers.
Pickwings: digitized freight distribution through an independent carrier network.
eCarUp: efficient, intelligent sharing of electric car charging stations.
Swissprime Technologies: provides fast, secure controlled access to locked spaces through mobile technology.
Oxygen at Work: uses specific plants and data analytics to improve air quality at work.
Nomoko: aims to create a digital twin of the world – photorealistic, dynamic 3D models of entire cities – and provide the tools to build applications on top of it.
SoFlow: rechargeable, reliable e-mobility products from hoverboards to e-bikes.
Parquery: uses object detection technology and analytics to manage needs from smart parking to warehouse stock optimization.
