Beekeeper raises $13m to boost growth and expand its Berlin team

ETH spin-off startup Beekeeper raises $13 million in addition to its series A funding. The funds will be used to further boost the strategic growth and make the digital workplace app even more compliant with current data privacy laws.

Today, over 75% of the global workforce rely on their smartphone to communicate with their colleagues. But most of the digital tools on the market don’t cater to the needs of non-desk-workers, which then have to rely on WhatsApp and other messaging services. This is problematic, more so since the GDPR was put in place in Europe this spring.

Beekeeper provides a digital workplace app that connects colleagues across locations and departments in real time via mobile or desktop devices. The non-desk-workforce gains access to operational systems and communication channels within one single secure platform. This is not only more efficient but also raises motivation and satisfaction of the workforce.

Beekeeper started its journey with Venture Kick in 2011 and was incorporated in 2012. In 2016 and 2017, the startup was ranked among the most promising Swiss startups at the TOP 100 Swiss Startup Award. Cristian Grossmann “The support of Venturelab has been very valuable to get Beekeeper to where we are. The ecosystem and support programs that have been built over the past years are a great source for future startups.”

The funds come from different strategic investors: Lead investors are Keen Ventures and Atomico, but also Swiss Post, Samsung Next and Edenred Capital Partners and all existing investors, among them FYRFLY Venture Partners participated.

Since Beekeepers series A financing round one and a half years ago, the Zurich based startup is on a strong growth path and is now present on 5 locations worldwide. The team in Berlin is set to get from 4 to 15 in the next months. Beekeeper can now offer on-site assistance to its German customers and expand its client portfolio.
