The funding will further develop Biognosys' operations worldwide. CEO Oliver Rinner discusses his leap from academic, to startup founder in our interview below.
Biognosys sets a new standard in multiplexed protein quantification and provides proteomics research services to innovative pharma and biotech firms. The startup's innovation enables full proteome profiling in a digital protein map to monitor health and to preserve information for future advances in diagnostics and treatment.
The investment round, which welcomed a new industrial investor, in addition to existing shareholders, will be used to fund further clinical development, to build a new GCP-certified facility in Switzerland, and to scale Biognosys’ commercial presence worldwide.
What is BiognoSYS' mission and how will this investment help achieve your vision?
We are striving to provide the deepest and most precise proteomics data to our clients. We are very excited with the perspective to be pioneers in bringing discovery proteomics to clinical trials and provide our advanced data analysis services at a much larger scale.
In 2009 you won training, support and CHF 30,000 from Venture Kick. How did this help you launch your entrepreneurial career?
Venture Kick helped us make the leap from a startup idea to a real venture, where we decided to take the chance and leave our academic careers behind. As scientific founders the training program helped us learn what we didn’t know, and work specifically on these points. It's a great format and makes a significant contribution to the Swiss startup environment.
You also ranked at the TOP 100 Swiss Startup Award from 2011 to 2013. How did the TOP 100 help lay the foundation for your growth and today's achievement?
This was an important validation for our private investors and employees. It shows that others think you are doing something right and that has a potential. This is important during the early phase of a startup, when in times of difficulties you question the whole venture idea.
