Enlightra raises USD 15M for energy-efficient AI data links

19.12.2025 15:44, Rita Longobardi

Swiss-American deeptech startup Enlightra has emerged from stealth to address a central constraint in AI infrastructure: fast and energy-efficient data transfer. The company develops chip-scale multiwavelength lasers designed for next-generation optical interconnects in AI clusters and data centers.

As AI training scales, data centers require faster links between GPUs, yet most connections still rely on copper wiring with clear limits in bandwidth and power consumption. Enlightra replaces copper with compact optical links that deliver higher data rates while reducing energy use. The market for energy-efficient interconnects is projected to reach USD 24 billion by 2030.

The company’s technology integrates multiple laser wavelengths into a single source, with each color acting as an independent data channel. This approach replaces dozens of discrete lasers, reducing power, cost, and footprint. Built using standard silicon photonics processes, the lasers are designed for high-volume manufacturing.

Backed by USD 15 million in funding, Enlightra has developed 8- and 16-channel lasers that meet customer specifications for AI chip interconnects, achieving error-free transmission at target speeds and power levels. Pilot production is planned for 2027.

Founded in 2022, a Venture Leaders Technology and Venture Leaders Deeptech, the engineering company employs a 25-person team and operates across photonics, semiconductor manufacturing, and AI infrastructure.
