Marco Pisano co-founded Lymphatica Medtech, a Venture Leader Medtech that develops medical devices to treat lymphedema—chronic swelling of arms and legs that often arises as a side effect of cancer treatments and affects more than 10 million people in Europe and the US alone. Lymphatica’s LymphoDrain™ is the world’s first active implantable bypass for chronic lymphedema treatment and allows automated lymph drainage for millions of lymphedema patients worldwide. “The worldwide first implantable active lymphatic bypass for lymphedema treatment”

How and where did you come up with the idea for your startup?
It started with meeting one lymphedema patient in 2014 and continued with a coffee between the two engineers, COO Valentine Triacca and I, who became Lymphatica co-founders. 

What do you expect from the Venture Leaders program, and how will it help you achieve your vision? 
Venture Leaders Medtech will be a unique opportunity to explore development and funding opportunities in the US to create important connections with other Venture Leader companies.

What is your favorite movie?
Pulp Fiction by Quentin Tarantino. It’s a great mix of anecdotes, unforgettable dialogues, action, and the right amount of splatter scenes to create a unique cult movie.

What is always in your fridge?
Beers and milk (for my son and me, but I won’t tell you who drinks what)!

What are you most proud of?  
My son Enzo and my daughter Elisa: They make me yell and laugh in a crazy mix of joy and challenges, of which I’m incredibly proud.

Where and when are you most productive?
In the office, when the deadline is inexorably approaching.

How and where do you clear your mind?
Going for a walk or a run on the lakeshore.

What is the most rewarding aspect of being a founder?
Looking at the team, celebrating the reaching of milestones as a family.
