The travel startup MyCamper continues to grow strongly: In the last few weeks, MyCamper was able to win existing and new investors for its pre-series A financing round. The young company, also known from the first season of the business reality TV show “Die Höhle der Löwen Schweiz” [The Lion’s Den Switzerland] will receive capital worth more than CHF 1 million. This investment will enable the “Airbnb for camper” to further expand its operational business in Switzerland and drive forward its expansion into the Scandinavian market.

In early summer 2019, the Basel-based startup became known for its successful participation in the Swiss edition of the “Lion’s Den” program. All five lions—Anja Graf, Bettina Hein, Jürg Marquard, Roland Brack, and Tobias Reichmuth—were not only thrilled in front of the camera but also completed a significant round of investors with MyCamper after the show. The five lions have also been proud and satisfied investors in recent months.
MyCamper was one of the TOP 100 Swiss startups 2019—an achievement that accelerated the startup’s growth and made a big difference in the fundraising process: “To be among the top 100 startups in Switzerland gave our team a lot of recognition, and it boosted our motivation to be on the right track,” said CEO Michele Matt. “It also helped us enormously in the fundraising process: We included the TOP 100 logo in our pitch deck. This made it easier for us to convince new investors, especially foreign investors, because they knew right away that we were one of the best 100 startups in Switzerland, which was very valuable. The cherry on top is, of course, the media attention, which gives a boost every time.”
Since the end of 2019, MyCamper has set its sights on the Scandinavian countries. With a local team in Stockholm, Sweden, CEO Michele Matt has already successfully exported his innovative idea to the first country outside of the home market. With over 800,000 camping cars, Scandinavia offers a large market potential for MyCamper, which also convinced new, well-known investors from Switzerland and Germany.
When the coronavirus pandemic reached Switzerland and its neighboring countries, MyCamper recorded a sharp decline in numbers over several weeks. However, for the last few days, MyCamper’s website has been experiencing an increase in visitors and bookings within Switzerland: “We are trying to make the best of these difficult times and are convinced that camping holidays will experience an upswing after this crisis and that demand will increase even more in the future, as people want to take holidays locally and individually, which is what a camper is ideal for,” says Michele Matt, founder and CEO of MyCamper.
