TeraSol secured its first round of financing to make city renaturation projects more accessible and sustainable

18.03.2024 16:40, Rita Longobardi

The Vaud-based startup has announced the completion of its first stage of pre-seed financing of CHF 500’000, which will allow TeraSol to recruit a scientific manager to lead the research laboratory and develop the ExoSol catalogue.

This funding secured by the company will contribute to the development of an urban soil mapping tool to define, visualize, and test different scenarios that a city would have at its disposal to renature its plots sustainably. The turnover generated in 2023 by the soil engineering firm largely covers fixed and operating costs.

This funding can therefore be entirely used to commercialize and develop new products. ExoSol©, is a fertile substrate based on the sustainable circular economy in urban excavated material recycling. Given the considerable amount of earthy material going to landfills, Exo-Sol©’s manufacturing process should reduce greenhouse gases in creating the many urban green spaces planned for the coming years. It is planned to produce ExoSol© during the construction site itself, or within a reasonable perimeter, which will considerably reduce transport (evacuation of excavated materials and importation of topsoil).

TeraSol continues to grow: The company plans to end 2024 with seven employees. The company participated in the Innosuisse Start-up Training Business Creation Engineering in 2022.

"The training allowed me to learn a lot of things: Acquiring the knowledge for fundraising and the right management reflexes thanks to concrete and effective tools, in particular for cash flow and KPIs. In my case, Caroline Coquerel was a great help to me during this launch. TeraSol's journey started with a well-accompanied sprint, we now move on to the endurance phase which promises to be exciting. I'm going there without fear: I've been well prepared," commented Caroline Coquelin, CMO of TeraSol.
