Virtual Scale Up Bootcamps offer prosperous business development opportunities with industry leaders

12.04.2021 11:54, Guillaume Tinsel

Still following remote-work recommendations in 2021, the two first Scale Up Bootcamps sessions of the year offered outstanding opportunities to connect industry leaders with fast-growing startups in a virtual environment. The online event enabled strong matchmaking to discuss business development proposals during virtual one-on-one meetings in two different verticals.

More than 40 growth-oriented entrepreneurs and leading Swiss corporates participated in an online Scale Up Bootcamp to connect and discuss business development proposals during a thriving day of entrepreneurial matchmaking. Two Scale up Bootcamps gave 23 innovative Swiss startups and 19 of the country’s most influential corporates the occasion to look into partnerships across Mobility and Smart Cities and Industrial Tech verticals—in a record total of 100 one-on-one meetings.

Each industry vertical’s half-day session began with attracting pitches and setting the pace for a day of exclusive networking opportunities. In a Zoom meeting, a selection of top scaling startups and Swiss corporates had 90 seconds to present their areas of interest and lay the foundations for subsequent one-on-one meetings on the B2Match matchmaking app. Entrepreneurs and decision-makers enjoyed as many as six intense 15-minute exchanges with their matches to discuss potential partnerships. "The Scale-up Bootcamp was a fast and sharp channel to meet with companies interested in our products, with a clear target to make things happen," said Alberto Hernando, CTO of Kido Dynamics.

Mobility and Smart Cities
Startups in the Mobility and Smart Cities tech vertical enjoyed access to 20 of the country’s biggest corporates, including SBB CFF FFS, Cisco Systems, AMAG, Ville de Lausanne, and Swiss Post. “Scale Up Bootcamps are a great opportunity to meet in an efficient and effective way top startups. The online bilateral sessions are perfect to cope with the Covid-19 situation and still be able to get to know each other,” said Laurent Roux, Head of Operations Altdorf at Dätwyler IT Infra AG. In turn, the corporate executives could discuss potential synergies and collaborations for growth with entrepreneurs at the cutting edge of technology. “This was truly well done and highly efficient. High caliber corporates and high level of interaction. Great job!” said Alexander E. Brunner, Commercial Advisor at Univrses.

Industrial Tech
The afternoon’s Industrial Tech session attracted famous companies, such as ABB, AWS, Coop, Implenia as well as global players. "Joining the Scale up Bootcamps on industrial tech and mobility and smart cities helped our innovation team to get a fast overview on key technologies and promising startups in these spaces. Exchanging opportunities for POC testing in a pressure-cooker setting helps to get to the point and scout solutions to be tested in our rapidly changing business,” said Karel Van Eechoud, Senior Innovation Manager at Implenia. The growth-oriented Swiss startups included technology leaders encompassing security and safety monitoring on industrial sites, smart vision systems for intelligent automation, VR factory design, electric actuators for machines, 3D scanning, sense of touch for robots, Saas for machine maintenance, inspection drones, contactless robotic grippers, AI to simplify robotic programming, self-repairing material, high-performance polymer 3D printing, edge computing, industrial wireless connectivity solutions, and AR for industrial manufacturing. "It's always a challenge to get qualified and interested new contacts at large enterprises, and the ScaleUp Bootcamp delivered exactly that, in a nice and highly efficient way," said Christian Lutz, Founder of Crate.io.
