More than a billion people live out of the grid and spend up to 30% of their income in non-efficient and toxic solutions. In Sub-Saharan Africa, almost 90% of people own a phone but only 30% can charge it at home, meaning that half of the populations owns a phone but need to go back to town to charge it.
We developed a consumable based iron battery that generates enough power to charge a phone and light a LED. Consumables cost half the price they are currently paying, the reaction does not emit anything toxic, and the energy provided is completely on demand. It is the only solution providing clean, safe, affordable and on.-demand energy in rural Africa.
