GovTech Innovation Exchange: connecting startups and the Swiss Federal Administration for digital transformation solutions

27.06.2023 16:54, Rita Longobardi

On June 22nd, Venturelab hosted at the Startup Space the GovTech Innovation Exchange, a groundbreaking event that brought together startups and offices of the Swiss Federal Administration to foster collaboration and implement innovative ideas. The event provided an exceptional platform for entrepreneurs to engage with government officials, expand their business networks, and potentially secure concrete implementation orders.

Spearheaded by key organizers Alexander Kämpfer and Uwe Heck (Federal Chancellery), and Ekaterina Koleva and Philipp Winteler (Venturelab), the event provided a unique platform for startups to engage with government officials, showcase their ideas, and potentially secure concrete implementation orders. The GovTech Innovation Exchange was organized by the Digital Transformation and ICT Steering Division (DTI) of the Federal Chancellery in partnership with Venturelab and digitalswitzerland. This inaugural event marked the Federal Administration's response to the Swiss Parliament's call to explore and potentially implement groundbreaking ideas. The primary focus was on the challenges submitted by various offices of the Federal Administration, which encompassed diverse domains ranging from environmental digitization to healthcare and aviation.

Entrepreneurs with startups meeting specific criteria had the opportunity to submit proposals for solutions to the aforementioned challenges. The criteria included having been founded within the past seven years, active involvement of founders as shareholders, and a minimum of three employees. Following a thorough evaluation of all proposals, the Federal Chancellery and the challenging offices of the Federal Administration selected the most promising ideas to participate in the GovTech Innovation Exchange.

At the event, notable startups such as Ateleris, 4eyes, iptAG, DemoSquare, recappIT, Captum, efexcon, Zeilenwerk, Squirro, devedis, Data Rocks, Teamplanning, nucleusAG, Cyberbotics, GeoInsight, riok, BrainE4, OnGoodTerms, insert, Algoma, PolitAnalytics, LargoAI, Acodis, TrustRelay, Contexity, and Read Coop SCE were present.

During the event, startups had the unique chance to engage in direct dialogue with representatives from the Federal Administration, fostering collaboration and the potential development of innovative solutions. It was anticipated that concrete implementation orders might arise from the ideas and discussions generated during the exchange, depending on the specific challenges and existing budgets within the departments.

The GovTech Innovation Exchange not only provided startups with an opportunity to showcase their solutions but also facilitated invaluable networking and business development prospects. By connecting with government officials and representatives from different offices of the Federal Administration, entrepreneurs gained exposure to potential customers, and forged connections that could be pivotal in driving their ventures forward.

Furthermore, the event served as a gateway for startups to access valuable resources and expertise, enabling them to navigate the complexities of working with government entities. The collaboration between startups and the Federal Administration in this innovative setting was a testament to Switzerland's commitment to embracing digital transformation and harnessing the power of entrepreneurship to address pressing societal challenges.

Ultimately, the exchange facilitated the development of groundbreaking solutions, inspiring entrepreneurs, and paving the way for a more innovative and connected future.
