Meet Perovskia co-founder Anand Verma and find out how he makes solar cells customizable

04.05.2021 16:30, Isabelle Mitchell

Anand Verma co-founded Perovskia, a startup and Venture Leader Mobile that enables solar cells to be designed around products rather than building products around solar cells. Perovskia has developed a digital printing technology to fabricate efficient and stable perovskite solar cells with custom design capabilities, which can be used in high-end electronic devices, the Internet of things, and even customized solar tiles. Learn more about Anand’s expectations for the Venture Leaders Mobile experience and find out which inspiring world leader’s advice motivated him to bring the Perovskia solution to the market.

The Venture Leaders Mobile 2021 will accelerate their expansion into the global market and strengthen their business network by attending the Mobile World Congress 2021 in Barcelona, Spain, to meet with top-notch investors and industry leaders. To introduce you to the members of the Swiss National Startup Team, we asked each entrepreneur to complete a short profile and choose six questions from a questionnaire about their personal and professional life.

“Perovskia offers digitally printed customizable perovskite solar cells for electronic devices, IoT, and sensors.”

How and where did you come up with the idea for your startup?
Perovskia came out of the years of research work carried out at Empa, Dübendorf, Switzerland. The project was funded by the Swiss Federal Office of Energy.

What do you expect from the Venture Leaders program, and how will it help you achieve your vision?
It will provide us with a global platform to showcase our customizable solar cells to potential customers and investors. We look forward to finding further applications at the conference where our custom design solar cells can be integrated.

What is one thing not many people know about you?
I write poetry when I get free time and especially during vacations. My interest in poetry mostly focuses on the grandeur of nature and the complex yet beautiful nature of human life.

What is your favorite movie?
The Matrix series. The storyline and the acting convey the concept of the movies in a lucid manner.

What is your favorite book?
Sapiens: A Brief History of Humankind by Yuval Noah Harari is my favorite book. It provides a comprehensive look into the history of homo sapiens. I always recommend this book to my friends and especially their growing children, as this will help broaden their perspective.

What is always in your fridge?
We are a family with a young one, so milk is always there in our fridge.

What advice would you give your teenage self?
All will be well. Just keep learning and evolving. Making mistakes is an integral part of the evolutionary process.

How and where do you clear your mind?
Listening to classical music and going on a long, peaceful walk in the beautiful Swiss countryside.

What is the most challenging aspect of being a founder?
Dealing with challenges becomes a part of day-to-day life. Most of the challenges can be foreseen and should be planned for, but few arise unexpectedly, and then one should free its mind to take the most logical and sane decision.

What is the most rewarding aspect of being a founder?
To work hard on your dream and navigate it through calm as well as turbulent waters.

What is the best advice you have ever received and from whom?
“When your research is successful, bring it to the market.” – Ban Ki-Moon (former secretary-general of the United Nations)

Last but not least, could you show us your workplace?
